Lower Hutt City Council and HTS Group Ltd have installed the
country's first PUFFIN (Pedestrian User Friendly Intelligent
Crossings) Signalised Pedestrian Crossing.
PUFFIN Ped crossings differ from the norm by:
- Having the pedestrian lantern viewable at the pole beside them
- Having No lantern viewable on the pole across the road
- Having the The Red Man not flashing
The Hutt City Puffin installation was a finalised in the IPENZ 3M
Traffic Safety Innovation Award 2010.
